There were 12 historic bands of Utes. The Ute People present-day home is in Utah and Colorado in the Southwestern United States. For many centuries this home has sustained the Utes. The state of Utah is named after the Ute tribe.
Ute People now primarily live in Utah and Colorado, within three Ute tribal reservations: Uintah-Ouray in northeastern Utah, Southern Ute in Colorado, and Ute Mountain which primarily lies in Colorado, but extends to Utah and New Mexico. The majority of Ute People live on these reservations, although some reside off-reservation.
